I spent my first couple of hours with Eternal Sonata tonight. At it’s basic level this is classic JRPG action, with the expected big eyed girls and spiky haired heroes, or at least somewhat spiky, the characters I’ve played so far are a little toned down for some of the more extreme styles I’ve seen before to better fit the classical feel of this game set in a dream world created by the dying mind of Frédéric Chopin.

Graphically the style is bright and crisp and really rather beautiful. All the cut scenes and dialog sections, of which there seem to be quite a few so far as done in-engine thankfully, so you never feel pulled out of the world. One surprise for me was that after playing the game for a fair while, both as heroine Polka, and the male duo  of Allegretto and Beat I happened upon the title sequence! I had wondered why I hadn’t happened upon a single achievement despite fighting what I presumed was by first, albeit rather easy, boss battle, but if all I’ve done so far is the prologue then I can’t expect too much.

Given I’ve just started playing Chrono Trigger a few nights back i can see me loosing quite a few game hours to both these games over the coming weeks, presuming something new doesn’t come along and steal their thunder. I’ll be back with more thoughts on Eternal Sonata, and Chrono Trigger for that matter once I have a few more hours with them both.

Another £6.99 bargain for the XBOX 360 this time in the form of JRPG Eternal Sonata.

Not read much about it, but working off of a recommendation from a good friend. Will fire it up tonight at home and see how I like it, though at that price you can forgive games a lot.

On the other hand, having just started Chrono Trigger on the DS and my new PC build still requiring some fine tuning the demands on my time are on the up!

Speaking of the new rig I really should blog something about that soon.. I’m one poor, sporadic blogger!
