Taking a stand

After several months of internal and external debates about how to approach the whole HD video arena, we’ve finally made a stand! As expected we’ve sided with HD-DVD.. I just can’t hand the entire movie industry into SONY’s hands.
It was a trip to Tesco’s that finally made us take the plunge with the spotting of the new Toshiba EP30 for just under £200 (and 1000 Tesco points to boot!)
The drive came with Bourne Supremacy and 300. 300 was used to check out the 1080P capabilities and it was most impressive, however a full viewing of Star Wars Episode One was in order to check out the upscaling abilities given I’d noticed the DVD compression ever since we got the Samsung 40″ LCD screen. The conversion seems to work very well improving the image quality to a remarkable standard and breathing fresh life into the discs, at least until HD versions come out which will see my sixth full donation to the George Lucas retirement fund.
I can’t comment on the audio too much until a new sound system has been purchased, hopefully sometime this year so for now its just the hybrid 3.1 system we have going which isn;t a fair test of anything!
