Aye, didn’t stop me playing either, but I did draw in my expectations somewhat. I think understanding this is what allowed me to eventually break my WoW habit But I still have a few of teh free to play MMOs on the machine, D&D, Warhammer etc. There’s definatly some great game play, and far more often, great companionship to be found out there, and for those reasons we’ll keep on coming back.

I have been searching for days, weeks, months for an mmo that would satisfy me in every way I used to be satisfied with games before. I typed “satisfying mmo” in google with the hope someone could point me in the right direction and I stumbled on your article. You’ve just put into words what I’ve been experiencing for weeks, months now. You echoed my thoughts and now I will have a different outlook on mmos. (but I won’t stop playingXD)

I believe there will be a fair amount of PS3 exclusives only, though with the option to rent, and thus no decision being final, I can flip flop more than otherwise possible.

Good luck with the PS3. I wonder what will be the first multi-platform title that you buy for the PS3 over the Xbox or Wii.
I can understand buying a Wii game over others because of the controls (such as a tennis game), but I don’t know what might sway you to buy anything but PS3 exclusives for your new (to you) Blu-ray player.

Have fun with the PS3!

I bought the 60 GB a while back, maybe a year or so (forgotten exactly), because of the backwards compatibility before the model was phased out.

I’ll be honest and say that I should really play more games on the PS3, and there are some great exclusives I’d like to delve into, but I’ve just not had the time. The pile of shame is already big enough for the 360!

I’m actually surprised it didn’t pick up any permanent damage, however it appears better than ever, though as you say, there are some very cheap upgrade options I could make use of.. though as I’m playing through some older games just now I can probably hold off for a while.. maybe

Dust is a component killer. Keep a can of air duster around and hit the inside of your case about once a month; problem solved.

x1900xt eh? If you’re itching for an upgrade, go drop £30 on an 8 series GeForce or a HD3870 ATI. It’ll be quite the boost.

I feel the PC has benefited from the XBOX is several ways. For a start you can now use the gamepads as control devices, which is great for certain games, where keyboard control isn’t anolgue enough. Secondly it would seem porting, though often done without finesse, from XBOX to PC is a relativly easy process. And now that Games for Windows Live is getting to what it always should have been, with acheivements and gamerpoints I can see the two becoming closer. Also the moves made in Vista, and now Windows 7 to better intergrate games into the OS with given save folders and so on all helps to make things less of a grind against all the drivers and settings of yesteryear. I still maintain my PC to a high standard, a post about which is on the way, so I can still marvel at the cutting edge high res, my monitor runs at 1920×1200 native, graphics, and I still love seeing that, but the XBOX, as would the PS3 probably, has proven to me that HD level graphics are basically good enough for anything you would want. My hope is that the resolution race is now over and people will concentrate more on clever graphics rather than technical graphics, as we are starting to see with some of the more stylistic choices being made in games these days.

I’m glad you’re enjoying your Xbox Experience. Xbox Live has certainly impressed me over the last few years. I’m sure PSN could offer me a similar experience, but as most of my friends are on Live, my bed, as they say, has been made for me.

I’m a console gamer now, but it wasn’t always that way. I decided to make the transition quite a few years preferring the ease of use of a console (although I’m sure PC’s are easier to manage for gaming these days?). There are of course the obvious downsides, but not having the graphical grunt isn’t really an issue for me.

The mouse and keyboard is sorely missed tho!

Aye, it’s not a bad kick back game, though I’ve yet to have a go myself. Animation is not quite up to par and is rather jerky, but it hardly detracts from the simple gameplay.

I only tried the trial game, but it felt like a decent game to chill out with. Good use of the avatar, mind you the existing “giants” in the game just looked too freaky
